Satellite Tobacco Mosaic Virus

Satellite Tobacco Mosaic Virus

large image

Satellite tobacco mosaic virus (PDB 1a34) with transparent capsid proteins revealing part of the single stranded RNA genome. Sixty percent of the 1059 bases of the genome are resolved in this 1.8 angstrom crystal structure. The protein and RNA chains are shown as surfaces using the Chimera multiscale extension. Not shown are 10080 waters, about 2000 of which make hydrogen bonds stabilizing protein-protein, protein-RNA or RNA-RNA interactions. For more details see S.B. Larson, et al., J. Mol. Biol. (1998) 277, 37-59.
