Hi Patrick,
Do you know if, when you installed the new driver, it rewrote your
XF86Config file?
We've seen this problem before, when a graphics card is
cofigured to use less than 24 bit color depth.
a good way to test this is to run the command 'glxinfo -t' . If you take a
look at the output of this command (there will be lots!), towards the end
there will be a table of 'visuals'. One of the columns of this table will
be labeled 'depth'. What are the values in this column (16s or 24s ?)
(Alternatively, you could send me the output and I can take a look at
it...)
Another thing to check would be to look in your XF86Config file
(most likely located at /etc/X11/XF86Config), and see what the section
entitled "Screen" says. You're looking specifically for the value of the
'Depth' entry.
