Hi Andy -
On some of the more gui-oriented platforms on which Chimera runs (OS X
and Windows) there is some support for opening PDB files in Chimera
directly from the operating system:
---------------------
Macintosh OS X:
Supports a kind of drag-and-drop. While you can't drag-and-drop on to
the
Chimera window itself, you can drag-and-drop a pdb file on to Chimera's
Dock icon
to open it in Chimera. This works 'out of the box.'
----------------------
Windows:
Requires a little bit of configuration for a similar capability.
Choose Tools->Utilities->Browser Configuration from the Chimera menus.
This will present you with a 'wizard' interface for associating
certain file types with Chimera. PDB is one of the supported types.
After running this tool (in addition to being able to click on PDB
files from the web and have them open in Chimera), you should
be able to double-click on .pdb files on your system, and they will open
in Chimera.
------------------------
On both systems, if Chimera is already open, the file will be opened in
the running instance of Chimera.
Hope this helps. Let us know if there are any add'l questions.
