[Chimera-users] problems to start chimera

Hello Ricardo,

The problem is with the Mesa package that provides OpenGL (graphics)
support. OpenSUSE 13.2 has a recent version of Mesa, so I am surprised
it doesn't work. Perhaps there is a configuration problem, or there are
supporting packages that are missing.

Our recommended solution is to install the proprietary graphics driver
for your graphics card. Run lspci (maybe /sbin/lspci) and grep for VGA
to see what kind of graphics you have, ideally you'll have AMD or NVIDIA
graphics -- if you have Intel graphics, there is no proprietary graphics
driver, but make sure the xf86-video-intel package is installed. If
OpenSUSE has a proprietary package for your graphics driver, then
install it, if not, you'll need to go the vendor's web site, ie.,
www.amd.com or www.nvidia.com, to get the appropriate driver and
manually install it. The disadvantage of the manual install is that
every time you update your system (the kernel or the X11 server), you
might need to reinstall the graphics driver.

See https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:ATI_drivers for what to do to get the
proprietary AMD/ATI graphics drivers, and see
https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:NVIDIA_drivers for what to do to get the
proprietary NVIDIA graphics drivers. If you don't have one of those,
make sure the appropriate xf86-video-* driver installed.

     Good luck!

     Greg
