What kind of object are you trying to place, a molecular structure? a density map? an abstract shape like an ellipsoid? There is not a general facility to do this but it may be possible to write a script to do it in specific cases. The following Python script, placem.py,

on the Chimera Python scripts web page

can place molecules or maps at positions listed in a text file.
