[Chimera-users] Numbers(markers) inside/on the map

Hi Dmitry,
If you just mean you want to place labels (that happen to be numbers) in various places on the map, you can use the 2D Labels tool (in menu under Tools... Depiction).
<http://www.rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimera/docs/ContributedSoftware/2dlabels/2dlabels.html>

They are really 2D, similar to adding labels to an image in Photoshop: they don't move in the window when you move the map, so you have to decide on the map position first (like for a figure or movie).

There isn't a feature to add arbitrary labels in 3D without atoms. You might possibly add fake atoms (this is what we usually call "markers") on the map surface or within the map with the Volume Tracer tool (in menu under Tools... Volume Data), and then add "marker notes" which are essentially the atom labels. In that case they all have to be the same size, which would be set in the Chimera preferences, category Labels.

I hope this helps,
Elaine
