[chimerax-users] Color protein by residue

Hi Tom,

It was fascinating trying this morning your AltSpaceVR collaborative PDB model visualization with the Vive virtual reality headset. The structure we looked at showing antigen presentation to a T-cell receptor was a good one to talk about and the ability to point to parts of the 3D model with your hands is powerful. Since AltSpaceVR uses three.js (javascript library) to render 3d objects like molecules we’ll have to think about how ChimeraX could produce such models to drop into the collaborative scene. Eric Pettersen suggested after our AltSpaceVR demo this morning that maybe ChimeraX user interface panels can simply be embedded in the 3D VR scene as floating panels. That would be interesting to be able to use all the visualization and analysis capabilities of ChimeraX having the molecular scene floating in the middle of the room with user interface panels around you.

(If you don’t want to send that info to the whole list, can just e-mail me individually.)

It is why I was suggesting your team take a look at what is possible in an immersive collaboration VR environment. I look forward to hearing from someone on your team.
