Hi Theo,
For a whole model, there is a color well (square that shows the color) in the Model Panel that you can click to open the system color editor, which would show the hex code.

If it's the color of a specific atom or residue ribbon segment, you can select that atom or residue (e.g. with Ctrl-click) and then click the green magnifying-glass icon in the toolbar Home tab to open the Selection Inspector. Use the Selection Inspector to inspect the appropriate level (atom or residue). Like the Model Panel, the Selection Inspector dialog contains color wells which you can click to open the system color editor, as mentioned above.

Ways to make a selection:

Selection Inspector tool:
<https://rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimerax/docs/user/tools/inspector.html>

I hope this helps,
Elaine

For example, I open a previously colored structure and like the color of chain A and now I would like to use that same color and maybe apply to other chains in the structure. Is there a way other than just eye-balling it?
