[chimerax-users] Isolde in with VR Headset ?

Hi Tristan!

I played just a little bit, and for now I have to admit that it is very convincing =D I will bring my headset to my lab and test it with proper GPUs (2 RTXA6000) because on my single RTX 2070S it was a big laggy.

Nothing frustrating for now, just some things to get used to in the beginning (like the very big UI in VR that need to be dragged, I had to remove my headset to write some commands, the atom selection distance that was very big first (5A) that I had to reduce to 1A otherwise I would grabed the atoms behind XD)

I will get back to you with more feedback when I (and my colleagues) will use it a bit more :)

Best,
Thibault.

Giving ISOLDE full VR support has been an aspiration of mine for quite some time, but other things have always gotten in the way so far. The functionality that is there is all thanks to Tom. I'd be really interested to hear your thoughts after playing with it for a while - what's missing, what's frustrating, that sort of thing.

Hi Thibault,
I made a video using ISOLDE in VR to tug atoms

[ https://www.rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimerax/data/isolde-vr-mar2021/isolde_vr.mp4 | https://www.rbvi.ucsf.edu/chimerax/data/isolde-vr-mar2021/isolde_vr.mp4 ]

Maybe the most recent ISOLDE has some problem with VR, I made that video in 2021. If the video does not help you get it to work, I can test with current ISOLDE, The "Tug" mode in the ChimeraX "right mouse" toolbar works in VR, but won't help with ISOLDE since it does not feel map forces.

Dear all,

I tried to use my Occulus Quest with ChimeraX Isolde Pluggin, while it works amazingly, the "tugging" function doesn't work.
I thought that maybe it is the mouse mode that is node configured, so I tried "vr button trigger select" or 'vr button trigger "isolde tug atom"' but nope...

It is not a request of course, just a question to know if someone already tried it ^^

Best regards,
