Discussion Notes
- Toolshed database overloading web server
- Frequent queries of Toolshed database bogged down the web server.
- Return info about tool versions is over 1 Mbyte.
- How can we optimize so web server is not impaired?
- Can cache nightly the tool info to avoid costly database queries. Try this as next step.
- Should look at database transaction logs to see what database queries are actually made.
- Toolshed queries also return list of commands offered by the available bundles.
- Web site accessibility progress
- Tom Ferrin got email from UCSF about too little progress on accessibility improvements.
- Greg says changes he made before vacation were not checked in (chimera docs) so have not propagated to the siteimprove scores.
- Chimera doc changes have been committed.
- Next siteimprove scan is tomorrow (Jan 23).
- Looked at many siteimprove issues during the meeting.
- Greg can initiate a web site scan but it takes over a day to run.
- Discussed how to report false positive accessibility issues.
- Github Pages for ChimeraX documentation.
- Would moving ChimeraX docs to Github Pages reduce UCSF site accessibility requirements?
- Would help reduce load on our server from web scrapers.
- Zach says Github has size limits and we have lots of images.
- Scooter notes Github pages takes time rebuild documentation while updating.
